Floodplain Maps

When WSA took over the responsibility for stormwater management in the City and County in 2004, one of the first major projects undertaken was to have the floodplain basins studied and mapped throughout Douglas County in order to determine not only the existing 100-year floodplain conditions, but also the future 100-year floodplain conditions.  Prior to this, the floodplain maps used were those of the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), and they were approximately 30 years old.

The last of the basin studies was completed in late 2012, with approximately 200 square miles mapped.  As the basin maps were completed, the findings were shared with FEMA for use in its efforts to upadate their Flood Insurance Rate Maps.  The information is also now being used as "best available data" by realtors, builders, and contractors, etc. in purchasing and developing property.
